At last…. I know who John Cow is…

July 21st, 2008

John Cow will hopefully be announcing to the world who he is after noon tomorrow. But I found out who he is and thought, just to be an arse, that I would post it and let everyone know before he gets a chance to bask in that glory.

I won’t beat about the bush….. here goes……………

John Cow is actually Mike D from the Beastie Boys.

I know it sounds nuts but you can see why he has been so hush hush. People would have jumped on him for other reasons than him wanting to be a MMO blogger.

In a conversation with Cow, which I promised I would not leak :) sucker!!!! He said that after many years of running the Beastie Boys as more of a business, rather than a skinny white hip hop outfit, that his interests had shifted so he started going online and soaking up as much info as possible.

When he said in previous posts that he had staff, well they were the guys and girls at the Beasties’ own record label and strangely pre-Mike D’s interest they had no experience with online marketing.

cow is mike dSo Mike Cow has been kind of stringing us along all this time pretending that he knew what he was talking about and doing a pretty ok job of it all!

Kind of like the way I have been stringing you along.

If you believed one word of what I have written so far then……. well you are not that stupid, as it is true that Cow will be announcing his real identity, hopefully tomorrow.

If you rush quickly then you still have time to enter the Cow Roast competition. Prizes up for grabs include:

  • Kindle: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device OR $350 Cash via PayPal
  • A free animated 125×125 banner from TheRandomForest (yours truly :) ) and it will be displayed on JohnCow for 30 days - Value $130
  • A Free WhyPark account ( host up to 100 of your domain names at WhyPark.com. That includes: Free hosting of your WhyPark.com web sites. Use your domain names to generate traffic and revenue. Instant keyword rich web sites with no technical knowledge required. Free professional support and helpful tips. We’ll help you build traffic to your domain names and you keep all of your revenue from your web sites or you can use our ad network.) - Value $100

So who is Cow anyway??

In the past I have thought that cow could have been Garry Conn, John Chow or even it’s original owner Bob.

I genuingly don’t know who the Cow is and did try and do some research at one point early on is this whole fiasco. I think they last conclusion I came to was that it was a guy called Matt Callen, and I still can’t remember why :).

I am anticipating the results….. let me know who you think it is….

Worlds Oldest Blogger Dies at 108!!!

July 14th, 2008

worlds oldest bloggerI just heard about this sad news on CTV….

An Australian woman named Olive Riley has sadly died peacefully at age 108. She passed away on Saturday (12th July) and her blog http://www.allaboutolive.com.au/ has been down due to a flurry of hits.

You can visit her temporary blog here: http://worldsoldestblogger.blogspot.com/

According to CNN ’she was amazed by the internet’ and often blogged about her childhood.

RIP OLIVE RILEY

She was born in 1899 in a small mining village, which is awesome. She is probably the only blogger EVER to be born pre 1900 and luckily for us her blog is stored in history, never changing on the internet.

She would have been 109 on October 20 and originally started blogging after Mike Rubbo, who filmed a documentary on her life four years ago, suggested the idea.

I can’t even imagine reaching that age, let alone, still be blogging. However we have to stand up and give this lovely lady all our respect.

I only wish I had known about her, and interacted, sooner.

Get an iPod for…. maybe a dollar!!

July 14th, 2008

External_300

uBid.com have given me this cool sponsored opportunity to talk about their upcoming iPod Auction promotion.
They have over 1000 iPods up for auction and guess what….. they all start at $1 and there is no reserve. So if one goes for $1, it goes for $1.

This is working as one of their partners has a ton of excess iPod stock and uBid is helping them to liquidate that stock…. this is kind of how uBid can work.

It’s very different to eBay as it deals with Business going direct to customer and like in the case of the iPods…. sometimes things will be selling for a very cheap price.

They have a 100% fraud-free guarantee and excellent customer service. By going to businesses and warehouses all over the world uBid can bring you some of the finest known brand products at some of the lowest prices you will ever see.

By helping and retailers sell excess inventory online uBid will grow in popularity pretty fast, well that’s what I believe :).

Don’t let it happen………..

July 14th, 2008

I may be a little late on this….. but please do not let a full on 80’s revival happen!!!!

I was browsing away on You Tube (when I should have been working) and came across a great song….. until I saw the video!!

It’s going to take me a while to get this classic’s video out of my head. The ating / clothes / soft lighting etc etc just cracked me up.

So You Tube has ruined Tears for Fears for me…… Better go watch Donnie Darko again to revive their respect.

Mind you some of the music videos these days are hardly a great reflection on our times.

Ewan McGregor’s Long Way Down

July 11th, 2008

Just the other day I was talking to my girlfriend about “The Long Way Round”, the first great motorbike documentary from Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. I was saying how much we need to see it….. then I was given this opportunity from Social Spark to talk about a brand new crazy road trip from this pair.

Ewan McGregor’s Long Way Down is a brand new journey charting their journey from the tip of Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa on their trusty BMW motorcycles.

I loved the idea of traveling across the world after watching the first one and I am sure that will be more than reignited watching this one.

The closest I have done to this is a road trip me and a few friends embarked on a few years ago. We started in South Easy England and drove into France and 500 miles down the West Coast to our destination…. a small town called Condom. It was a pretty quick trip but we saw some magical places including Dune Du Pyla, Europe’s biggest sand dunes. Hardly Egypt but impressive none the less!

A great thing about The Long Way Down is that they are releasing a theatrical version of the film on July 31st, which will be broadcast to theaters nationwide on that date, and only that date. If I find it in a local cinema I will definitely try and catch it in this form.

Happy Birthday to me!! Can you give me a frugal present?

July 11th, 2008

Just looked at the date and realized that it is my birthday!! Well not mine but the birthday of The Random Forest.

I started the Random Forest this day last year on it’s original .info domain as an alternative to my, then, main blogger blog “At Last I’m Free”. It was originally intended as a place to do some paid reviews and place a few opinions but steadily became my main blog and eventually late last year I transferred it to it’s .com domain and moved it from Blogger to Wordpress.

I must say the progression of this site and my knowledge has been a magnificent adventure and I appreciate everyone who visits me here.

So what can you get me for my Birthday?

As you may know, I am currently in a competition to flip a site in 30 days…. The problem is that I am getting attached to the site and may find it very hard to sell! So for now I am promoting it like it is going to be my site for a long time.

Part of the comp involves me getting as much traffic and subscribers as possible so that is where my present comes in :)

If you find it in your heart please could you visit my new site “Frugal Zeitgeist” about living in a frugal way and sign up to the mailing list. If you like what you see then it would also be appreciated if you used the handy little sociable icon below each post and submitted some posts to social networks.

living in a frugal way

Ok, I should not expect to get anything for free!!

I will give you a free backlink here in the blog roll and in a thank you post if you paste this link text somewhere on your site:

<a title=”living in a frugal way” href=”http://frugalzeitgeist.com”>living in a frugal way</a>

Just leave a comment to let me know that you have done it.

Please also let me know what you think of the site?

I’m off to get some birthday cake :)

Thanks a million,

Forest.

My Independence Day

July 3rd, 2008

long hard road aheadHappy 4th of July, I hope everyone in the US has a great day and eats, drinks and bes merry.

I sadly never made it down to the US and am stuck in Canada for this Independence day. But that is not what I wanted to talk about……

I am considering July as the beginning of my Independence as such. I have a tough month ahead and thought I would let you all know what my goals are.

last week a got a shock… Since becoming a full time blogger I have been relying on Paid Post income until I find a way to earn more money from other revenues. To do this I was neglecting one of my sites….. well Google finally gave me the punishment I deserved and stripped my Page Rank! Effectively this has wiped my income to near 0. I knew it was going to happen but was hoping it would hold out another two months.

I was a slave to PPP, and checked it constantly for opportunities. As much as I am worried and stressed now about income, I am also freed from the grasp of PPP. I am independent now and need to crack the code to earning income in other ways online. I have to do this quickly…. that is why July is going to be tough….. So what are my projects and goals for July?

Affiliate Marketing PPC Campaign

learn affiliate marketing

I am following a Niche Workshop based over at the awesome Click Consultants Affiliate Marketing Forum. They are helping me every step along the way to produce my site, landing pages, keywords and PPC campaign to hopefully start making a monthly passive income. After this campaign I hope to expand rapidly to others. I may even start a second campaign before the month is up!

Flipping a site

frugalitiesI am participating in the 30 Days of Site Flipping Contest over at Site Flip University and here is the early days of my entry. The site Frugal Zeitgeist will be a home for frugal ideas and hopefully grow into a great resource and entertaining read.

I will be receiving points for various things such as RSS subscribers (so it would be appreciated if you sign up to my feed here), but most importantly I will be learning about flipping sites.

Let me know what you think and let me know if you have any Frugal Ideas for me to write about or even want to guest post.

My only worry is that I will not want to sell it at the end of the comp!

Adsense Earnings

My Adsense earnings are up for June and I am at about $70… which is more than I had ever earned on Adsense for the last year that I have been using it! So that is amazing. Hopefully July will see me increase these earnings to at least $150.

So wish me luck and I really hope I manage to replace my lost income. If not then August may see me having to go and join the masses and get a normal job until I can get my income streams up to scratch.
Any opinions and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Take care,

Forest.

Happy Canada Day

July 1st, 2008

happy canada day

A little late I know!!

Here in Quebec it’s also known as Moving Day where all the students head home. I guess this is so people celebrate St Jean Baptist Day rather than Canada Day! If I am unfounded please let me know :
