Day III: Being Social and other little traffic earners
Why do I read and comment on other peoples blogs?
Is it to earn traffic, or is it because I enjoy reading and commenting?
For me the answer is both. I know it’s hardly a revelation to say so but being social in the WWW is the only real way to forge real relationships and gain yourself the popularity and readership you deserve.
At the end of my blogging day Google Reader is opened and the glorious magic number of posts to read is displayed……. one day it may be 7, another 47….. or like it was after my recent week long neglection…… 523.
I really do enjoy sifting through the days posts and replying to people. The addiction has got me good and I know even if blogging becomes something I no longer do, reading and commenting will still be something I do.

Of course everyone knows, reading and commenting on the same blogs everyday is hardly going to bring you a flood of new readers. So that’s why today I am going to look into other social things I am and should be doing to gain new readers and reach my current target of 50 RSS subscribers (by this time next month). Money is one of my final objectives but good personal communications and maybe even forgery of life long friendships are just as important if I am going to get along in the blogosphere the way I want to.
The latest buzzword is Social Networking, so what I am going to do about it?
Personally I have been using Myspace and Facebook for a long while now. Myspace has kind of fallen by the wayside but Facebook is something I actively use at least a few times a week (especially to play Scrabulus). I have not heard great things about getting new readers from here but I still want to give it a try and will spend a couple of minutes there each day. Please do come by and become my friend.
However there is a new Social Networking site out there. A great blogger Aaron Cook put me onto it and I have now joined and am looking for everyone else to join too. What is different about them? Well they pay to network socially!
Yuwie, Pays? Why and How? How do I join?
I have only just joined so no money for me yet but you can trust Aaron when he endorses something. Basically Yuwie is the first revenue sharing social networking site. It works very much like Facebook but is actually a little prettier and easier to use. It took me a very long time to adjust to Facebook.
I am going to use Yuwie to republish my blog posts and eventually if I get a large network I will start providing exclusive videos and image for all of you that have joined me. The revenue sharing is tiered for up to 10 below you so you will accumulate the more your network grows. You will be paid as people view your profile, images, posts and videos. As always it’s free so there is definitely no excuse for not trying it out. Click on the Yuwie Pays title to join my network. I would love to have your company.
What about Digg, Stumbleupon and all those others?
As you can see I have a little Share and Enjoy section at the base of each post and have added a large Post On Fire Button.
I want to concentrate specifically on Digg and Stumbleupon and again please do sign up to be my friend. I have only been using them casually and at times I have had good results.
I learned about Post on Fire yesterday. It’s geared towards Bloggers submitting anything including their own posts. As it’s quite new, it should be fairly easy to get your posts recognized. I’ll be testing this one and will give my opinions soon.
I guess that is the end of another, What I am, what I should post. Thanks for reading and I hope all the endorsing and attempts at coaxing you to join me were not too much!
If you have anymore social suggestions for me, please do drop a comment.
Tomorrow I am going to look at the structure of this blog. I hope to present a new structure in which I will post certain types of posts on certain days. I also want to start developing a few of the other ideas that I have talked about so watch this space….
