6 things that the Indiana Jones Quadrilogy can teach us about Affiliate Marketing
For motivational advice, I think we should use our imaginations more and make our day to day lives interesting by looking to alternative sources.
Have you seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull yet?
Watching Indy set against the nuclear background of the late 50’s reminded me of my childhood dreams of adventuring into the unknown.
These days I am not quite the adventurer that I dreamed of becoming. I spend my days dreaming of making Affiliate Marketing sales instead. You could say that the adventure has gone.
However, I made my first two Affiliate sales this week and it feels exciting…. maybe the adventure is just beginning!
In an attempt to make my experience of Affiliate Marketing an exhilarating and bumpy ride, I am looking at the Indiana Jones Quadrilogy as an alternative source of inspiration.
What can Indiana Jones teach us before we go on our Affiliate Marketing adventure?
- Keep finding those treasures.
Indiana never rested. After finding the Arc of the Convenant most of us would have stopped! However he was hungry for more and greater conquests and has pinnacled with his latest adventure. He wasn’t scared to dig in and get his hands dirty.
My first treasure is Micro Niche Finder. I have sold two copies and will be working hard to secure some more. Once I achieve my goal and have a plan in place, I will find my next product. It does not necessarily need to be related to Micro Niche Finder. At present, I am looking possibly to promote GoFreeCredit. My advice: Always promote a product that you have successfully used yourself, especially in your early days of Affiliate Marketing.
- Someone or something will always be against you, but don’t let that stop you
Poor old Henry Jones had to deal with the Nazis for 3 movies…. then fast forward to the 1950’s and the Russians stepped in where the Nazi’s left off. There was never any rest. With quick thinking, confidence and dry wit Indy worked a way around all his problems.
Something will always get in the way and there will always be unexpected pit falls. Like Jones, face them and work out a way around the obstacles. My mortal enemy is Time. I am working hard to face this by producing task lists and trying to complete them. I am also aiming to restrict my working hours to a specific time frame and streamline my production. If you have only 2 hours in a day, make a priority list of things you need done and work to complete them (stay focused and realistic).
- We all have our fears
Snakes scare the living hell out of the otherwise fearless Indiana Jones. He is utterly petrified of them, but never stops himself from entering places where he is likely to encounter at least one. We have seen him spend a lot of time in the Jungle…. snake territory.
If something worries or scares you, don’t let it stop you from going somewhere or doing something. Forums used to intimidate me. So many professionals who knew what they were doing, exchanging jargon posts that I had no idea about. My early posts often got mocking replies and laughs towards my naivity on certain subjects. Don’t be afraid of these snakes. The value of good replies normally outweighs any crap you receive. Plus, your learning curve will shoot up. I suggest you join Digital Point and start participating now.
- Don’t believe the hype and keep your sense of humor
Indy is a cynic. Even after seeing the Arc and the Cup of Christ he still refused to believe that the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was anything more than a myth. But he still pursued these adventures just to find out.
You will see so many amazing offers and Affiliate Program claims. Be cynical. Perhaps test-promote them and ask others about their experiences with these programs. They might be everything they claim, so you should not discount everything. As Indy was whisked away from the university to pursue these quests, so too will you be drawn away to work on your Affiliate Marketing. Sometimes it won’t work out, feeling like a waste of time. Just laugh it off, learn from it and work on the next adventure.
- Surround yourself with good people
Indy always has a sidekick or two to hand. A partner who always helps him out of trouble. In the latest film, he has Mutt and Marion. Previously he has had his Dad, Marcus, Short Round, Sallah and many more.

Network with anyone who interests you. Many people are out there willing to share their experiences and successes which may help you with your Affiliate Marketing journey. I have learned more about Affiliate Marketing by directly speaking with other bloggers than through any other source. There is a great community out there. And you can always contact me! My email is forest.parks@gmail.com.
- Once you have a great idea, stick with it
When Lucas and Spielberg came up with their idea for Indy in the late 80’s, they probably never envisioned that a new movie staring the original actor would release in 2008. I don’t think anyone saw it coming! But it just goes to show how a good solid formula, and the right mix of elements, can keep your projects running and profitable for years to come.
Imagine Indiana Jones as a niche. It has been recreated in many forms over the years: 4 Movies, a TV Series, Theme Park Rides, Books, Toys, Video Games and much more. One idea and one product has spread so far. I am planning to find my “Indiana Jones” in the form of a few Affiliate products and basic website layouts from which I will produce many niche sites. Thus recreating the formula with varied elements to get people’s interest from many angles. Obviously, you always need to keep the new creations fresh and current. Indy has managed this very well over the years. In the coming weeks, I will be discussing my research and site building ideas for my long-term plan. I would love to have you follow me and take some advice as well as give advice back. We can all learn from each other.
I hope you have seen or get to see the movie soon. I am sure Harrison is going to hang up the Fedora now, but obviously Shia (Mutt in the movie) will be continuing the role and there will be many more formulaic- yet successful- movies to come. The product will keep selling.
My next Affiliate Marketing post will look more closely at the methods I used to secure my first two sales. I am not yet a millionaire, but I am sure that my success will continue. Hopefully I can make another sale next week.
Please let us know of any adventurous tips you have. And tell me what you thought of this article.

You forgot the factor about his tools. Having a handy tool at all times is a benefit (his whip) that is overlooked. Using the right tools at the right time for sure gets the job done!

Hey Mattaw,
Completely true
I should have seen that one! The great thing about the comments is that people can expand on the base points and help each other to look at different aspects of the same thing. Great things come from thinking as a group, even if you work alone….. a little like Indy, I guess
What tools would you suggest that we use as bloggers to help us with Affiliate Marketing?
I am definitely finding Micro Niche Finder great, and let us not forget Wordpress itself. I am interested in some Ad management systems and also been using a fantastic Firefox plug in called Reminder Fox to help me keep lists of tasks that I need to do.
