My First Affiliate Sales and The Plan Ahead

jumping for joy

Last week I decided that I was going to work hard and make my first affiliate sale. Luckily I ended up making two!

I sold two copies of Micro Niche Finder (<-Affiliate link ;) , one directly to a fellow blogger and one through my forum signature on Digital Point.

The sale to the fellow blogger is something I have been and will continue working on for a while. I trust Micro Niche Finder a lot and use it in my day to day. With the Affiliate Marketing lead future, that I am planning, it will play a big part. So, every time I saw a post where somebody was talking about Keyword research, I would mention that I use MNF and stand by it. I would also offer my help if more information was needed.

This eventually ended up with me writing a guest post on Brent Crouch’s great blog. Click the link here if you would like to read the post - Micro Niche Finder Review - Find Long Tail Keywords - Keyword Research.

Sadly I made no direct sales from the post but I did end up speaking to a blogger personally. I offered to provide some free keyword research from MNF. This is what sold the program.

Like I said I will continue to push this product to other bloggers in a similar fashion. My commission is only $30 and I did much more than $30 of work for the first sale but it is worthwhile as you all build stronger relationships and gain a good reputatio, laying down trust for future recommendations.

The 2nd copy was sold with no work as such. I have an account over at Digital Point Forums and decided to advertise my MNF affiliate link in my footer. I suggest whatever you are promoting that you make a quick catchy line, enticing people to click and take a look. I gave the affiliate link and a link to an older article proving my success with the package. Finally one of the clickers liked what they saw and made a purchase.

I will be updating my signature soon to point to my recent guest post. I post semi-regular on the forum, generally on easy topics but I hope to get more involved in the future as forums are an indispensable place to network.

What next?

As you can see, I have hardly hit the big time :).

The last few days has been full of conversation with other bloggers who have been helping me greatly. As usual I have been getting bits of help from the extremely busy Garry Conn. But also I have been in contact with two new blogging friends both who specialize in Marketing and have helped me learn so much, making me confident about the road ahead. I suggest you visit Mattaw’s blog, Money Bites and Bryan Clarks blog, Site Flip U and start absorbing marketing information now.

I need to start small so need to be careful about things. I don’t have the experience to jump into highly competitive niche markets so need to look for very small specific markets and plan on making money on a small scale across multiple sites.

Garry Conn is famed for making a little money with lots of sites and I would like to follow suite, using adsense to compliment any affiliate sales that I can make.

So for the next two weeks:

  • I plan to perfect my theme(s) to be used across multiple sites.
  • I will then start researching .info domain names (they are very cheap and rank well in Google), then aim purchases about 15 in bulk to start building my little sites.
  • Then start to build the sites one at a time and aim to start getting them indexed and filled with content.

I will be posting soon about my theme building.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

    Good job on the first affiliate sale! You have to make $1 before you can make $100… after that, it’s as simple as lather, rinse, repeat! Good luck :)

    @Jeff - Cheers, nice motivation :)

    @Mr P - They are easy ways but they tend to be very short term. Creating sustainable income from blogs is very hard indeed, but I am confident that I will get there.

    @Bryan, Thanks for stopping by, Almost making that dollar…… :) . I’ll be a millionaire before I know it :) !!

    I’m happy to hear it. I just sold my first Yahoo stuff earlier this week. So that’s my first aff. sale too (not counting ebay). By the way that piece we talked about is up if you want to come take a look.

    Just trying to fix my website right now though!!!

    Congrats on the sales Forest. Making an affiliate sale is really great news, the bad news is waiting to hit the payout limit. I’m playing the waiting game now with one of my affiliates and I’m so close to the minimum balance.
