In need of an adventure

I don’t know about you but sometimes with this city living malarkey you really start to get the feeling that you need to be away. Get out to a dense forest or a desert and have some adventure.

Or at least go on a good road trip. Sadly i don’t think I will be going anywhere for a while. Well not far anyway. I may be visiting Vermont for a few weeks and doing a little hiking, so it’s not like my life is totally drab!!

The last road trip adventure I undertook was through France. I have spoken about it recently and many times before but when I think about it, it was a good few years ago now. Last year I was in a car journeying from Vermont to Boston. It wasn’t exactly long but it was really cool to see New England, as I has never been before.

There are so many places that I would love to go. Africa and India are on the top of the list and it would be cool to travel through some of the back country on a bike or in a buggy. I’m not sure how realistic it is to do this.

Watching programs like Ewan McGreogor’s Long Way Round really does make you want to travel. Those guys had fun and hard times and a lot of it was caught on camera… including constant moaning, showing that it isn’t all amazing.

This time they have done it again, so it must have been a great overall experience. Ewan McGregor’s Long Way Down follows Ewan and Charlie as they travel on their huge BMW motorcycles from the tip of Scotland to South Africa. I have not seen the TV series but it must have been a hell of a journey.

If you don’t want to watch the series then you can catch a one time only theatrical release on July 31st. I may try to go for this one as it would be cool to see it compacted.

Here is the trailer:

    I don’t tend to do many holidays, I’m not really one for sitting in the sun doing nothing at all, but a road trip to go and visit somewhere sounds good, especially given I do enjoy driving, despite the rising cost! ;)

    Forest I think an adventure is a great idea !!!
    My girlfriend and I were talking about doing something similar just recently. We typically do the long weekends at friends cottages but we do need a little more spice than just a trip to a cottage.
    HA! I won’t go into the naked bungee thing here but at some point I may post it on my blog.
    We were thinking about about a type of extreme vacation, haven’t really looked into it too much, so thanks for the memory jogger on that.
    A good friend of mine did a journey to Tibet a few years back so thats something for me to think about. Not exactly and adventure, or well I supppose it could be

    @Shane,

    I am really thinking about going off volunteering for 3 months or so in Africa or India at some point.

    Also my GF may be going to Uni in Cairo, so may be off to Egypt in February :)

    Considering I have not had a vacation since June 2007, I really yearn for an adventure as well.

    I really want to go to New Zealand and fly fish the rivers, mountain bike the landscape, and relax.

    The sad thing is, in some areas, they are so hostile, it’s too dangerous.

    @Guru,

    Sadly some places are too hostile…. new zealand though, I think it’s ok there :)

    I may be off to Africa somewhere for a while next year…. so I hope anyway.

    Must be nice to do those types of things in life. I guess he deserves it though, he’s a hell of an actor.

    Road trips are indeed fun. I’ve not gone as far as you have, but I so enjoy a good road trip. Have fun whatever you decide to do. Have a great day. :)
