Save humanity… and send a message into space…

Social-spark-315x235

I just got the opportunity to write about this and was pretty pleased when I wondered over to the website for a closer look.

Operation Immortality is the website promoting an online subscription based game, named Tabula Rasa, in the vein of many others. Basically Earth is in trouble and you have to save it.

The introduction video looks awesome and it reminds me of War of the Worlds. The basic premise is that bio terrorism, asteroids, genetic science and much more could wipe the human race.

One thing that is extremely cool and individual about this whole thing is that after registering you can leave a message on the webiste for everyone else to see.

But…. something special is going to happen with these left messages.

In October 2008 the creator of the online game Richard Garriott will become the 8th private citizen to travel into space. With him he will take a saved game, a digotal DNA print from the Operation Immortality server containing all the personal messages to the International Space Station, where it will be stored as a testament to us in 2008!

… That is what I thought was particularly cool :).

I sent a message (my message code is 646) saying:

“It’s not the winning that matters, it’s the journey and what you learn on the way to your real destination that is the prize”.

A little cheesy I know! But I am never all about winning and I thought this was a good positive message to have floating around on that station thousands of miles away from here.

I have not played the game yet but like I said, it looks awesome and I will take the time out to do it soon.
